Carpet plays in important and healthful role in filtering the air indoors. It traps and holds many times its weight in small particles soil, dust, and allergens; including dust and allergens that enter the indoor environment and descend onto it from above. Substantial research suggests that carpet does not release these elements back into the air. However, just as it is important to clean or replace a furnace or HVAC filter, it’s important to routinely clean carpets.
Each type of carpet cleaning uses a cleaning agent of sorts in order to remove the dirt and greasy oils. The amount of detergent and type used directly corresponds with temperature, agitation, and time spent on the carpet. The cleaning agent tends to be a sticky substance in order to attract the oils and dirt, and in the hot water extraction method, the fiber rinse is even sticky.
A major carpet mill estimates that there is approximately 4% of the detergent used in a hot water extraction cleaning that remains on the carpet. This 4% adds up each time the carpet is cleaned. Once you have sticky detergent, with a sticky fiber rinse adding up on the carpet, “rapid re-soiling” occurs. This means that all of that sticky stuff that attracts dirt and oils makes regular foot traffic add up to the point that a standard vacuum stands no chance against the residue. The carpet ends up being dirtier than if the cleaning process ever occurred.
Regular maintenance of your carpet using a method that does not leave a sticky residue, i.e. dry carpet cleaning, will keep the appearance of your home the way that you like. We recommend annual cleaning of your carpets for cost-effectiveness, looks, and your health. There may be reasons to clean them more often, though. For instance, if you or a member of your family has allergies, if there are pets, children or other causes of excess soiling.
Some other benefits from dry carpet cleaning using encapsulation and the Host™ method of cleaning include:
· Prolonged carpet life
· Reduction in mold spores and allergens in your home
· No sticky, detergent residue left behind
· No worry about carpet shrinkage or split seams
· Safe for all carpets because they don’t get wet
